Doc Martens

For the second shadowbox window, we decided to display the classic boots in a unique way to symbolize the iconic brand for continuously making a statement since the early 1900s. We have decided to make a comic scene to make the boots POP. With the background being the classic red pop art dots, the boots hanging in the middle ground, and vinyls to complete the comic setting. We are allowing the boots to do most of the talking. This design choice is inspired by the art work of Roy Lichtenstein, who in the 1960s created pop art through parody. Lichtenstein created his work with the idea of popular advertising and comic book art in each piece. The bold colors and art work Lichtenstein utilized in his artwork are the main inspiration for our window and similar art was included.
Instead of showcasing the stereotypical grunge concert setting, we are displaying them in a way that allows the people passing to put the boot in their own terms of self-expression. We are simply trying to convey the message of the power of rebellious self-expression. Everybody already knows that Dr. Martens are “popping,” but it is up to the wearer to create their own rebellion. Having both sides of their customer base represented in the window is very crucial to the idea of rebellious self-expression. The lipstick loving girly girl can rock a pair of docs and at the same time so can the pop punk pierced guy. both make a statement.
